This is what I have found recently at the Villeroy & Boch shop – a coffee mug decorated with a theme from Świebodzin, a monument of the Jesus Christ, also known as “El Świebodzineiro”. I wonder why is that in the discounts.

It might be a nasty stereotype, but it’s hard to deny the facts – Poles are special, this is possibly the only country in the world, where  people wear sandals with socks on nearly the daily basis.

Here is a hard-core sandals user – it’s winter, about 3 Celsius and a strong wind. Who cares – with the track suit, the sandals with white socks will protect him from the cold. Maybe with a little help from vodka.

Yes, that’s what you see: in 2013, XXI century, central Europe, very close to Czech border – a woman pulls a plow. It was sort of hard to believe at first, so I took a picture to look at it later.

Spotted on the train today: main story from one of the most influential rags in Poland, SuperEkspres – Satan commutes on the My Little Pony. Kung-fu Panda, Monster High (described as Monster Height), Barbie Pokemons and other toys are mentioned as well. More on this story later.

Huge charity event in Poland, WOŚP – attracts enormous crowds of people of good will every year. All sort of passionates and activists go active and help to raise the money for medical instruments for kids and seniors.

This time I spotted a group of enthusiast that restore old Polish police cars from the communist era, when the Police was called “Milicja”. This formation doesn’t recall the best memories to older citizens of Poland, but the old cars are great – aren’t they nice? The attention to detail is admirable – they still have original registration plates!

Unitra Tola R-615 AM/FM vintage radio

Unitra Tola R-615 AM/FM vintage radio

This Unitra Tola R-615 radio is about 25 years old (built in 1987 in communist Poland, nearly bankrupt country with basically no resources available), still fully operational – and looks so last century, you would expect it to be like 50 years old. This only can show how fast those things evolve. Look – no displays, no digital dials – fully analogue, manual radio. But – in contrary to those most recent fancy digital receivers – this one works for last 25 years without any problems. Not really useful these days – unless you’re a hipster, of course.

Bing Bang Theory meets Ona tańczy dla mnie disco polo hit from Poland

Bing Bang Theory meets Ona tańczy dla mnie disco polo hit from Poland

Penny opens her computer and suddenly she sees a horrible disco polo hit from Poland “Ona tańczy dla mnie”. I’d react the same way. Whoever made this gif is a genius.

Another good reaction to this “music”, this time from Chuck Norris is here. Have a look, it’s worth it.

Google on Remembrance Day in Poland

Google celebrated the Remembrance Day with another nice doodle, this time, in Poland, the Polish national flag was used. There is a good reason – in Poland, the Remembrance Day is celebrated as a bank holiday as is considered as the most important day in the year – the National Independence Day, when Poles gather in many marches to commemorate the anniversary of Poland’s assumption of independent statehood in 1918 after 123 years of partition byRussiaPrussia and Austria.
It usually goes messy and normal people are a little afraid of going downtown this day, but that is a completely different story.

Polski Fiat 125p, a licenced version of Italian Fiat, was produced in Poland in Warsaw. For years and years, it was a dream car for most of the people – expensive, luxurious and in fact, available only on free, black market. Western cars, even the standard cars like VW or original Fiat, were considered as UFO’s and were reserved only for the elite.
